DMC(LOCAL) - PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
The District believes that a well-trained instructional aide contributes more effectively to the education of students. To be beneficial, training should reflect the instructional aide's assignment.
All para-educators with instructional support duties shall meet the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act requirements before May 2006. Para-educators shall meet one of the following qualifications:
48 college hours;
An associate's degree; or
Successful completion of the Paraprofessional Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (PAKS).
Para-educators with instructional support duties shall be required to earn a minimum of six college hours or 30 clock hours of staff development annually in order to be considered for continued employment.
