The District will offer a full day, tuition-based program that provides children with the "building blocks" that are part of the rich core knowledge curriculum.

A child must be four years of age on or before September 1 to be eligible for enrollment. Parents do not need to live within the District's boundaries to enroll their child in the Core Knowledge/Prekindergarten (CK/PK) tuition-based program.

Lottery Selection

Due to the high volume of applications, registration will be on a lottery system, with students selected at random for each school year.

Lottery Procedures

The selection process will include the following:

The number of spaces available at each CK/PK campus will be determined.

Note: Campus locations subject to change due to enrollment.

Complete/incomplete application packets will be sorted. Incomplete packets will not be eligible to be included in the lottery.

Completed applications will be numbered and categorized based on indication from the parent or legal guardian of:

Campus of choice;

District residents and/or District employees (District residents will provide proof of current residence and District employees will provide District employee ID number); and

Non-District applicants.

First round lottery selection will be conducted from applicants who are District residents and/or District employees.

Second round lottery selection will be conducted to fill remaining openings for applicants who are non-District residents. Obtaining a lottery number is not synonymous with placement in the CK/PK program.

Note: Campuses will be filled with first round lottery students; a second round lottery will be used to fill remaining openings only.

Parents will select campuses in preferential order, only marking the campuses where they are willing to enroll their child.

If the last number drawn belongs to a family of multiples, the parent will be given the choice to assume the last spot with one child and place the remaining sibling(s) on a waiting list or place all children on another available campus. [See Note below]

Note: One lottery number will be assigned per family. In the event a number is drawn for a family of multiples (twins, triplets, and the like) or multiple prekindergarten-aged children, i.e., birth child and adopted child, each will fill an individual space.

A parent of multiples must be present at the lottery drawing. If a parent is not present, the child/children will be placed at the discretion of the CK/PK administrative office.

If a parent declines the first lottery drawing, the child will be placed on the waiting list proceeded by others on the wait list, according to second and third choices marked on the application.

Applications received after the deadline will not be eligible for the lottery and will be placed on a waiting list. As space becomes available, parents will be contacted and offered a space based on their application.

After the lottery, District applicants, District employee applicants, and non-District applicants will be considered equal.

The list of applicants will be maintained for reference through the school year. Parents will be contacted in order of the applicant waiting list by the CK/PK administrative offices as openings become available.

Parent Notification

The District will notify parents by letter regarding acceptance for the program or of placement on the District's waiting list.
