EHDC(LOCAL) - ALTERNATIVE METHODS FOR EARNING CREDIT: CREDIT BY EXAMINATION WITHOUT PRIOR INSTRUCTION
Test Examinations for Acceleration or Course Credit
If a student in grades 1–12 wishes to accelerate to the next grade level or earn course credit without having received prior instruction in the grade level or course, the District shall offer opportunities in accordance with state law and State Board rules for the student to take a Board-approved examination for this purpose.
In accordance with State Board rules, the Board has approved the following procedures to allow a child who is five years old at the beginning of the school year to be assigned initially to grade 1 rather than kindergarten.
To have a student considered for this type of acceleration, the parent shall submit a written request for kindergarten acceleration to the central office. The campus acceleration committee shall make the decision regarding the appropriateness of accelerating the student based on the following criteria:
Scores on District-approved readiness tests or achievement tests that may be administered by appropriate District personnel.
Recommendation of the kindergarten or preschool the student has attended.
Observed social and emotional development of the student.
Campus Acceleration Committee
The campus acceleration committee shall include the testing teacher, the parent, a grade 1 teacher, a campus administrative representative, and a District representative. A parent who disagrees with the decision of the campus acceleration committee may appeal in accordance with FNG(LOCAL).
