Attendance Zones

A student shall be assigned to a school in the attendance zone in which he or she resides. Except as required by law or as permitted in this policy, no intradistrict transfer shall be approved.

Transfers Between Schools

A student who wishes to attend a school other than as assigned shall submit a request in writing to the Superintendent or designee, who shall be authorized to investigate and approve transfers be-tween schools.

Student Relocating

A student who is not currently a resident of an attendance zone may be permitted to enroll at a school in the attendance zone if the student's parent or legal guardian:

Is in the process of building a domicile in the attendance zone, the foundation has been laid at the time of enrollment, and the domicile is reasonably expected to be completed be-fore the end of the school year; or

Is moving into an owned or leased domicile in the attendance zone within 30 calendar days following the student's enrollment.

A student who changes attendance zones after the first nine-week grading period may remain at the first school until the end of the school year.

Child of Employee or Transportation Department Employee

A child of a District employee or a child of a transportation department employee may be permitted to enroll at the campus of the employee's choice.

"Transportation Department Employee"

For purposes of this policy, a "transportation department employee" shall be defined as an individual who is an employee of the company contracted to provide transportation services to the District.

Extenuating Circumstances

In extenuating circumstances of hardship, the Superintendent or designee shall be authorized to investigate and approve requested transfers between schools in consultation with the principals of both campuses involved and with other appropriate administrative staff.

Conditions of Transfer

A student wishing to transfer shall file an application for transfer each school year with the Superintendent or designee. A transfer shall be granted for one regular school year at a time.

In approving a transfer, considerations shall include, but not be limited to, availability of space, programming, and instructional staff; and the student's disciplinary, academic, and attendance history.

In every case, the residence of a student must be bona fide as determined by the Superintendent or designee in consideration of all relevant circumstances.

If the transferred student fails to meet transfer requirements after being granted a transfer, the student's transfer may be revoked at the discretion of the Superintendent or designee.


The District shall not be responsible for transportation of a student who is granted a transfer to a campus outside the student's attendance area, except as required by law.
