FMG(LOCAL) - STUDENT ACTIVITIES: TRAVEL

Philosophy

The Board believes in providing opportunities for students to grow and learn through competition and experiences in environments outside the classroom. Furthermore, the Board is committed to providing safe and reliable transportation for District-sanctioned student travel.

Student Travel

The Superintendent shall establish administrative procedures regarding student travel.

School-Sponsored Trips

School-sponsored trips shall be defined as trips whereby the trip is sanctioned by the Superintendent or designee and coordinated and chaperoned by FBISD staff and/or administrators. This does not include trips coordinated by a FBISD staff members working as an agent of a travel agency or tour company.

All school-sponsored trips shall be approved by the Superintendent or designee.

Informational materials of District-sponsored student trips and travel shall clearly indicate whether the trip is sanctioned by FBISD.

Transportation

Students who participate in school-sponsored trips shall be required to ride in transportation provided by the school to and from the event. Exception may be made if the student's parent or guardian personally requests that the student be allowed to ride from the event with the parent or guardian. The District shall not be liable for any injuries that occur to students riding in vehicles that are not provided by the school.

Overnight Travel

The District shall encourage students to take school-sponsored overnight trips for the following purposes:

  1. Instructional purposes (field trips and excursions). Approval for the trip shall be from the Superintendent or designee.
  2. Activities of school-sponsored or -sanctioned clubs or organizations. Approval for the trip shall be from the Superintendent or designee.
  3. UIL or other sanctioned competitions. Approval for the trip shall be from the Superintendent or designee.

Students involved in UIL or other sanctioned competition that requires an overnight trip shall have their expenses paid by the District.

Out-of-State Travel

School-sponsored trips that require out-of-state travel shall be approved by the Superintendent or designee.

International Travel

School-sponsored trips that require international travel shall be approved by the Board.
