PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

College District personnel shall be encouraged to affiliate with appropriate professional organizations. The College President shall have final authority to approve an employee's membership fees or dues to be paid by the College District.

reimbursement of related expenses

The College District encourages staff members to keep abreast of changes in their disciplines and encourages participation in professional organizations by providing time and support within the limits of its resources. Institutional memberships (those identifying the institution or position title) may be paid using institutional (budget) funds.

Individual memberships in professional organizations may be paid with institutional funds provided the activities of the organization are job-related. Approved membership fees, dues, and travel expenses shall be reimbursed or paid as due in accordance with College District policies and administrative regulations. [See DEE]

community service and economic development

College District personnel shall be encouraged to affiliate with community service and economic development organizations. The College President shall have final authority to approve an employee's membership fee or dues to be paid by the College District.

reimbursement of related expenses

The College District shall provide for the reimbursement of membership dues or fees for approved employee membership in community service and economic development organizations that do not discriminate on the basis of sex, religion, or national origin. Approved membership fees, dues, and travel expenses shall be reimbursed or paid as due in accordance with administrative regulations and the following:

The employee must petition and receive approval from the College President for reimbursement of paid membership fees or dues.

Contributions other than monthly dues or fees shall not be reimbursed by the College District.

Criteria for approving dues and fees for an employee shall include:

The primary purpose of the organization must be service to the community and must be in the College District's service area.

The employee must hold an executive, administrative, or managerial level position that relies heavily on positive community relationships for job success.

No more than two employees may receive reimbursement for fees or dues for membership in the same organization.

Exceptions to the criteria listed above shall require approval from the College President.

POLITICAL ACTIVITY

Employees and students may discuss and/or support political candidates, issues, and/or referenda. Such activity shall not interfere with normal College District business nor shall any College District equipment, materials, or financial resources be used.
