FDB(LOCAL) - ADMISSIONS: INTRADISTRICT TRANSFERS AND CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS
A student shall be assigned to a school in accordance with administrative regulations and the request made by the student or parent/guardian. The District shall make a choice for a student when the student or parent/guardian fails to provide the District with a specific request.
When a student is reassigned, the student's parent/guardian shall be notified in writing.
Conditions of Assignments
The Superintendent may deny a student's assignment choice if:
- The student has a criminal record; or
- The student fails to maintain the District's standards for attendance and conduct, in accordance with administrative regulations.
The District shall not provide transportation for an intradistrict transfer student who resides outside of the established attendance zone for the assigned campus, unless required by law.
The campus principal shall be authorized to investigate and approve the transfer of a student from one classroom to another on that campus.
Transfers Between Schools
The Superintendent shall be authorized to investigate and approve student transfers in accordance with this policy and administrative regulations.
Transfers for Academic Services
The District may reassign a student as necessary to provide appropriate academic services consistent with federal civil rights laws, so long as these reassignments do not hinder desegregation.
A student's eligibility for an intradistrict transfer shall extend to his or her siblings to the extent that it is necessary to allow the eligible student and his or her siblings to attend the same school.
Note: For the transfer of a student who is the victim of bullying or who engaged in bullying, see FDB(LEGAL). For the transfer of a student who attends a persistently dangerous school, becomes a victim of a violent criminal offense, or becomes a victim of sexual assault, see FDE.
