School-Sponsored Trips in General

Students who participate in school-sponsored trips shall be required to use transportation provided by the school to and from the event. An exception may be made at the request of the student's parent or guardian.

Overnight Trips

Students may be permitted to take school-sponsored overnight trips for the following purposes [see FME(REGULATION) and FMF(REGULATION) for school trips:

Activities of school-sponsored or -sanctioned clubs or organizations. Approval for the trip shall be from the principal.

UIL or other sanctioned competitions. Approval for the trip shall be from the principal.

UIL Activities

State Board and UIL rules shall govern interscholastic activities; however, Board policies and District rules may supplement State Board and UIL rules.

No event shall be scheduled and no student allowed to participate in any UIL event unless all pertinent rules and regulations are strictly enforced. The Superintendent or designee shall maintain all necessary records and reports. Sponsors and coaches are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with rules for eligibility and participation. Overnight Trips for UIL Events

Students involved in UIL competition above the UIL-district level that requires an overnight trip shall have their expenses paid by the District. [See FMF]

Out-of-State Trips

High School

Upon approval from the Board, students may be permitted to take out-of-state, school-sponsored trips for the following purposes [see FME(REGULATION) and FMF (REGULATION)]:

Activities of school-sponsored or -sanctioned clubs or organizations.

Other sanctioned competitions.

School-sponsored activities for which the student has earned the right to participate.

Honors or Advanced Courses

A principal may grant an exemption in accordance with State Board rules and allow a student in an honors or advanced class, as specified by the state and identified in the student handbook, to participate in extracurricular activities, even if the student earns a grade less than 70 but not lower than 60. Extra-Curricular Activity Absences

The District shall make no distinction between absences for UIL activities and absences for other extracurricular activities approved by the Board. A student shall be allowed in a school year a maximum of ten extracurricular absences not related to post-district competition, a maximum of five absences for post-district competition prior to state, and a maximum of two absences for state competition. Intermediate

With Board approval, intermediate students may be permitted to take out-of-state, school-sponsored trips for:

Activities of school-sponsored or -sanctioned clubs or organizations.

Trips that offer a quality learning or character building experience.

The following conditions shall apply:

Trips shall be limited to grade 8 students.

A student's attendance, discipline record, and grades shall be used to determine the student's eligibility for the trip.

The school shall seek scholarships for economically disadvantaged students who are unable to pay the required costs.

Approval for the trip shall be from the Board.

An intermediate student may take an out-of-state trip for school-sponsored activities for which the student earned the right to participate. Approval for these trips shall be from the principal.
