EHDC(LOCAL) - ALTERNATIVE METHODS FOR EARNING CREDIT: CREDIT BY EXAMINATION WITHOUT PRIOR INSTRUCTION
Examinations for Acceleration or Course Credit
If a student in grades 1–12 wishes to accelerate to the next grade level or earn course credit without having received prior instruction in the grade level or course, the District shall offer opportunities in accordance with state law and State Board rules for the student to take a Board-approved examination for this purpose.
In addition to acceleration by grade level as permitted by law, the District shall permit students in grades 1–5 to accelerate in a single academic subject in accordance with procedures developed by the Superintendent or designee.
In accordance with State Board rules, the Board shall approve procedures developed by the Superintendent or designee to allow a child who is five-years-old at the beginning of the school year to be assigned initially to grade 1 rather than kindergarten.
A student must, at the time of consideration, be either a resident of the District or an approved transfer student with appropriate documentation filed in the Superintendent's office. The procedures shall include an assessment of a student's academic abilities, social skill development, and other criteria that would predict probable success in first grade as determined by the Superintendent or designee.
