Extracurricular Activity Absences

The District shall make no distinction between absences for UIL activities and absences for other extracurricular activities approved by the Board.

The Board shall not limit the number of extracurricular absences for competition at any level, subject to this policy and no pass/no play standards.

Additoinal Exemptions for District-Identified Advanced Classes

In addition to the exempt courses allowed by law, the District identifies courses listed in the Advanced Academic Program as honors courses for the purposes of eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities. [See FM(LEGAL)]

Of these District-identified courses, a student may request one exemption from the no pass/no play standards for one course per school year if:

The course grade is between 60 and 69;

The student makes application in writing; and

The teacher completes a checklist consisting of satisfactory behavior and attendance, both in class and in tutorials.

A coach/sponsor may submit in writing any additional extenuating circumstances, if appropriate to the situation. However, any appeal must be initiated by the student or parent.

Use of District Facilities

School-sponsored student groups may use District facilities with prior approval of the appropriate administrator. Other student groups may use District facilities in accordance with policy FNAB.
